You ever think you’ve come up with a hilarious fake story and then find out there’s a similar true story that’s even funnier?
This happened during research for last week’s music trivia night. Mike thought he came up with a funny and believable statement for our new true or false round: Johnny Cash wrote “Ring of Fire” about a particularly painful bowel movement after eating some Texas chili. (Nobody fell for it, by the way.)
Not only was the statement as a whole false, but Johnny didn’t even write the song. Songwriting credit belonged to his wife June Carter Cash and a guy named Merle. Well, it turned out Merle had a plan in 2004 to cash in on the song one more time by licensing it for use in a hemorrhoid cream commercial. But the heirs of June Carter Cash doused the flames of that idea.
